Beautiful Viennese Glass Mirror

last 3rd of the 19th century

This magnificent, hand-cut mirror is in excellent original condition. It was manufactured in one of the significant glass firms in Vienna or one of the Austrian Monarchy’s crown lands.

The octagonal bevelled center plate is framed by divided mirror segments, and etched with flower bouquets, glass cut running bead and elliptical decoration and embellished with glass flowers and leave elements all over; topped by a beautiful elaborate open crest.

Especially the glass factories in Bohemia, which was part of the Habsburg Imperium, were considered one of the best in Europe. These factories were absolute specialists in manufacturing stunning and beautifully etched mirrors, glass and tableware, and the highly admired chandelier pendants of elaborate quality.

At the end of the 19thCentury, the Barons of the Viennese city palaces at the chic Viennese address Ringstrasse” commissioned mirrors in this particular style for their glamorous salons.
