Magnificent, Very Large Venetian Chandelier

The present chan­de­lier was made around 1940 – 50 in the style of the cel­e­brat­ed Rez­zon­i­co chan­de­liers. These elab­o­rate chan­de­liers take their name from the Rez­zon­i­co fam­i­ly, who com­mis­sioned the con­struc­tion of their palaz­zo on Venice’s Grand Canal in 1750.

Excep­tion­al­ly rich in detail, the chan­de­lier is adorned with an abun­dance of hand-applied, clear-glass flow­ers and bell­flow­ers, com­ple­ment­ed by del­i­cate leaves and mag­nif­i­cent, large-scale glass pyra­mids. The chan­de­lier is arranged across five tiers, with the low­er two tiers fit­ted with a total of 18 can­dle arms.

The low­er sec­tion cul­mi­nates in a large, orna­ment­ed glass bowl, which tran­si­tions into a hol­low-blown, elab­o­rate­ly dec­o­rat­ed ele­ment known as the bas du lus­tre. The sweep­ing arms, craft­ed from met­al tub­ing that also con­ceals the elec­tri­cal wiring, are cov­ered with hun­dreds of indi­vid­u­al­ly hand­craft­ed glass ele­ments and ter­mi­nate in large glass bowls.

The crown of the chan­de­lier is com­posed of mul­ti­ple tiers adorned with applied petals, large glass pyra­mids, and a dec­o­ra­tive upper bowl.

A mag­nif­i­cent exam­ple of the beau­ty and excep­tion­al crafts­man­ship of Venet­ian chan­de­liers, this piece is ide­al­ly suit­ed to a dis­tin­guished inte­ri­or with a strong sense of atmos­phere. Chan­de­liers of this qual­i­ty and in such remark­ably pre­served con­di­tion are rarely found. It was orig­i­nal­ly cre­at­ed for an illus­tri­ous clientele.

All of our chan­de­liers are com­plete­ly dis­man­tled in our work­shop, pro­fes­sion­al­ly restored, reassem­bled, and new­ly rewired.
