Collector or Porcelain Cabinet
Extraordinary English salon and collector’s furniture from the “Edwardian Period,” veneered and dark stained in mahogany. The base of the richly decorated furniture stands on a total of six partially flared feet, connected by a moulded and gracefully curved compartment. The lower segment of the back wall is centrally open with curved frames and is adorned on the sides with two oval faceted mirrors.
The floor above it features a small display case with a glass door and two fixed glass elements, as well as a compartment. The glass door is beautifully decorated with a delicate ornament in the shape of a stylized tree. The display case is flanked on both sides by small shelves with faceted mirror plates on their backs. The top surface of the console-like base is designed with multiple graceful curves and mouldings, just like the lower compartment.
The highly decorative upper structure is centered around a large, oval mirror that follows the frame’s contours and is faceted. The large vault-like central arch, flanked by smaller arches on both sides, is crowned in the front with an intricate lattice-like decorative element. On both sides, there are several small shelves with mirrored back walls, supported in the front by delicately crafted turned columns.
An exceptionally rare and unique salon furniture piece, which provides the perfect setting for displaying collector’s items. The cleverly positioned mirrored surfaces allow for a perfect all-around view of the showcased art objects.
Especially precious porcelain was presented on and inside such extraordinary collector’s furniture. The dark color of the furniture, along with the numerous mirrored surfaces, make white or brightly painted porcelain particularly splendid.
