Pair of French Louis XV Salon Cabinets
around 1760/70
Extremely rare pair of small salon or half-cabinets executed in rosewood veneer on hardwood. The small, rectangular cabinet body stands on a skillfully curved base with rounded corners and small, swept legs.
The furniture body features a door with quadruple-sealed veneer and a frieze with surrounding string inlay. The top drawer above, which tapers upwards like the side walls, is also executed with a frieze and surrounding string inlay.
Both the fronts and the side walls are framed with corresponding skillfully curved cartouches and string inlays.
The two handles of the drawers, the lock fitting, and the sabots are made of fine gilded bronze fittings. The interior is equipped with two adjustable shelves each. The upper finish consists of small moulded and slightly curved marble plates made of French Sarrancolin marble.
The beige background of the marble plates is traversed by fine veins in pink, red, and gray tones.
An absolutely rare and delicately crafted pair of salon cabinets that will certainly not be found very often in the art market.
