Exceptional Salon Mirror from Italy

Second Third of the 19th Century

This is a magnificently executed Salon Mirror, with a wonderful, leaf-gilt surface and beautifully balanced proportions.

The frame is masterly carved in ornamental and foliate decoration, with a richly crafted surmount with roses, leaves and rocailles, enclosed by capitals, the inner frame slightly arched. Each side has a fine cartouche in the middle, a foliate shaped cartouche centers the lower part. Both sides have slightly swept feet with foliate decoration.

Especially intriguing the wide faceted glass cut alongside the large, original mirror plate, elaborately adapted to the inner shape of the frame.

This mirror certainly is a magnificent object of the 19th century, rare to find with this particularly elegant, narrow size which makes it perfect for rooms with less high ceilings.
