Very Elegant, Fine Salon Mirror
Italy, Piemonte, End of the 18th Century
Very finely carved, wonderfully leaf gilt Salon Mirror with old, divided mirror plate. The grooved, in the upper third arched frame in soft wood is richly decorated with acanthus leaf garlands and cords. The lower part is enclosed by small, indicated feet with foliate decoration.
The fine yet abundantly embellished crown is centered by an amphora flanked by rich garland and foliate decoration. Especially noteworthy are the delicately executed, hand-carved chain links joining into a long chain trailing from the surmount to the sides, fastened by cords.
This mirror is an elegant and beautiful example of the exquisite quality and delicate hand carving in Italy’s late 18th century.
